The Red Mass
The Red Mass takes its name from the red robes worn by judges
and the red vestments worn by the priests celebrating this mass to
invoke the guidance of the Holy Spirit on judges, lawyers, police
officers, and others who work in the justice system.
The tradition of the Red Mass began in Paris in 1245 and spread
to England in 1310 during the reign of King Edward I. The
tradition was revived at Westminster Cathedral, London, in 1904.
Toronto’s first Red Mass was celebrated in 1925.
Lawyers, judges and police officers of all faiths are welcome.
The Law Society Tribunal is moving
on Friday, September 4, 2015.
