(Sexual Assault Prosecutions)

Duties: This Crown Attorney is
accountable for the provisions of
competent prosecution services related to
sexualized violence. This position delivers
training programs to Crown Attorneys
across the Province of Nova Scotia.
The incumbent will develop resources
to assist Crown Attorneys prosecuting
sexual violence cases and measures for
monitoring performance of such cases.
The Crown Attorney collaborates with
other justice partners to address sexual
violence and police in providing pre and
post charge legal advice upon request.
This position will conduct sexual violence
cases alone and in partnership with
colleagues as required. The successful
applicant may be required to travel to all
parts of the province to train and/or to
Qualifications: A practicing member of
the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society (or
eligible for such membership) and four
years’ prosecution experience or related
criminal law experience, and a thorough
understanding of the prosecutions
process and competence in the areas
of criminal procedure, evidence and
substantive criminal law and particularly
those of criminal law and procedure
pertaining to sexual assault. Sound
understanding of issues pertaining to
gendered violence and trauma-informed
approaches is an asset.
Salary Range: $84,057 - $135,922
