Complaints Resolution Commissioner
(2 year Part-time Appointment – Renewable)
The Law Society of Upper Canada invites applications for the position of the
independent Complaints Resolution Commissioner (CRC), who is appointed by
Convocation. The CRC is responsible for reviewing decisions made by Law Society
staff to close complaint files as resolved or unwarranted, in order to determine that
the decisions taken were reasonable and that the processes that were followed were
appropriate. The duties of the CRC include holding meetings and communicating
the results to both the complainant and the Law Society.
You should have a university degree in law or equivalent education, and 10+
years’ experience in a legal office, law practice, Tribunal or comparable complex
organization. This is a part time opportunity (8 to 12 days per month, as required).
You will use your strong analytical skills to review cases referred to the Office of
the CRC and to ensure that the complaints review process is accessible, transparent
and fair. The CRC will report to Convocation on the results of reviews undertaken
on an annual basis. You will be supported by an expert team and will work with
the team to promote constructive relationships with other departments at the Law
Society and with other relevant stakeholders.
