This mandate calls for the expertise of a seasoned lawyer who is
an accomplished and respected municipal law practitioner, adept at
articulating a vision and at leading and inspiring others. Working under
the general direction of the City Solicitor and Deputy City Solicitor, you
will leverage your strengths as a solicitor with at least 10 years’ progressive
practice experience in the general municipal law area, including by-law advice
and drafting, municipal legislation, municipal elections, municipal authority
and jurisdiction issues, as well as municipal governance and accountability

Bring your 5+ years’ experience in the general municipal law area, including
by-law and contract advice and drafting, municipal legislation, and municipal
authority and jurisdiction issues. Practice areas include environmental and
other regulatory law, corporate/commercial law, municipal administrative
tribunals and pensions/investments. Reporting to the City Solicitor and Deputy
City Solicitor, you will provide high-quality, effective legal advocacy, advice and
services to City management and staff, and related boards and agencies, in the
broad range of municipal operations. Job ID #13097
To be considered for either position, you must be a member of the LSUC in good
standing and eligible to practice law in Ontario, with a Bachelor of Laws degree
(L.L.B.) or Juris Doctor (JD), and a proven ability to work under tight deadlines.
You are conversant with the statutes, regulations and by-laws affecting
municipal government, and fully capable of developing and implementing
proactive strategies, as well as anticipating and identifying legal challenges to
protect the interests of the City.
