The Ministry of the Attorney General seeks a Deputy Director to support the
Legal Director in providing legal services to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs
and the Ministry of Housing.
As part of the management team you will assist in leading the Legal Services
Branch to deliver legal services including legislative drafting, legal drafting,
advice, opinions and litigation. Responsibilities include supervising and working
collaboratively with Counsel; providing direction on high profile/complex files;
identifying and managing critical issues; and participating in budgeting,
recruitment and performance management. You will build partnerships with
clients at all levels; support a positive workplace culture; and ensure high
quality legal services are delivered in compliance with government policies.
Your leadership and management experience is accompanied by demonstrated
knowledge of public and administrative law including Housing, Procurement,
Aboriginal and Municipal law. You have experience applying Freedom of
Information legislation, overseeing government litigation, developing legislation
and undertaking government procurement. You have knowledge of the
legislation and programs of the client ministries. Your demonstrated skill in
advising senior management is matched with experience handling contentious
legal issues and navigating government decision making processes. Membership
in the Law Society of Upper Canada is mandatory.
