iv ONTARIO REPORTS OCTOBER 12, 2018
New obligations for 2018 – What you
need to know
We all play a vital role in addressing barriers faced by colleagues
because of racism and discrimination.
To remove these barriers, the Law Society is putting into action
the strategies recommended in Working Together for Change:
Strategies to Address Issues of Systemic Racism in the Legal
Professions.
This year, new requirements are being implemented. Here is what
you need to know and do:
For 2018:
1. Begin to meet the requirement for 3 CPD Professionalism Hours
focused on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI Hours). Licensees
subject to the CPD Requirement need to complete 3 EDI Hours
and record them in the Portal by the end of 2020
2. Continue to meet the Statement of Principles requirement
3. Continue to meet the Human Rights and Diversity Policy
requirement
For 2019:
4. Licensee representatives of legal workplaces of 10 or more licensees
to complete an equality, diversity and inclusion self-assessment for
their legal workplace through the 2018 Annual Report
5. All licensees will be asked to voluntarily answer inclusion questions
about their legal workplace in their 2018 Annual Report
