As Enercare evolves, so too does its need for legal support. The legal department works closely
with and provides both legal and business/operational support to all the business groups and
corporate functions within the organization. It is now seeking a Litigation Counsel to join its
team of 4 lawyers, a paralegal and a contracts manager. This individual will be the “go to” person
for all pre-litigation disputes and litigation matters and will provide strategic advice with respect to
complex customer claims, property damage claims and claims against suppliers and competitors.
This individual will be responsible for all aspects of the litigation process, including attending
examinations for discovery, motions, mediations, pre-trials and trials, to the extent required,
and managing external counsel on outsourced files. This role will also be involved in advising
on regulatory matters. Reporting to the General Counsel, this position will be based in the head
office in Markham, Ontario.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 4-6 years of experience in commercial litigation,
gained at a reputable law firm or corporation. Experience with employment and labour matters
would also be seen as an asset. Excellent advocacy, drafting, and interpersonal skills are essential in
this role. A strong business acumen, and the ability to think strategically, pragmatically and work
independently are also important. Prior experience in managing others will also be of interest.
