ARLANXEO is the world’s largest manufacturer of synthetic rubber, with global sales of
approximately CDN $4.8 billion in 2017, 3,800 employees and 20 production sites in nine
countries around the globe. Headquartered in Maastricht, Netherlands, the company’s core
business is the development, manufacturing and marketing of synthetic high-performance
rubber for use in the automotive and tire industries, the construction industry, and the
oil and gas industries. ARLANXEO was established in April 2016 as a joint venture of
LANXESS – a specialty chemicals company with worldwide reach based in Cologne,
Germany – and Saudi Aramco – a global energy and chemicals enterprise headquartered in
Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.
ARLANXEO Canada’s main office is located in Sarnia, Ontario and this opportunity
has arisen as its long-time General Counsel plans to retire in the autumn of 2019. In this
role as General Counsel, you will lead a team of 4 reports and be part of the local Senior
Management team and a member of an effective global legal team. You will oversee a very
broad range of legal matters and work closely with the business groups, including assisting
in the strategy of the Company. Although the main focus of your work will be in Canada, as
part of a global company, there is opportunity to get involved in work internationally.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience as a corporate/commercial
lawyer with a leading law firm or corporation (ideally, from the manufacturing sector).
You will have a wide range of legal experience including commercial drafting (including
supply, procurement and service agreements), corporate (including transactional work), and
employment law. Experience in labour, pension, environmental, real estate, governance and
compliance law would also be of interest, although not essential. As you will be working
extensively with various business groups, you must be customer service driven and have the
ability to develop good internal working relationships.
