Commercial Litigation Associate
REGIONAL SENIOR COUNSEL
SGI Canada is a leading insurance company in the property and casualty market in Canada offering
products in 5 of Canada’s provinces.
We are seeking an experienced LITIGATION LAWYER to join our Toronto office as its Regional
Senior Counsel, reporting to the AGC, SGI Canada. This is a unique leadership opportunity to
represent SGI Canada and Coachman Insurance as well as their insureds in the defence of a range
of complex tort matters. Responsibilities for this role will include, but are not limited to: handling all
aspects of litigation matters from initial referral to file closure, including examinations for discoveries,
motions, mediations, pre-trials and trials; managing and developing direct reports within the ON Legal
department; and reporting on Ontario strategic litigation assessments to the AGC, SGI Canada.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of insurance defence litigation experience including both
motor vehicle and property casualty insurance. This is a rare opportunity for a skilled senior lawyer to
join a growing legal department and take their career to the next level. AGC SGI Canada is seeking
a highly organized and persuasive advocate with a tenacity for solving complex problems. Trial
experience is essential. Management experience is preferred. A strong business acumen regarding
the Canadian property and casualty insurance market is an asset.
