The Legal Services Branch of The Regional Municipality of York is seeking an Associate
Counsel to join its municipal law group. This position will be located at 145 Harry
Walker Parkway, Newmarket. You will be responsible for providing legal advice to
Regional Council and departments relating to Regional transit infrastructure and
real property matters, including expropriations. Your duties will primarily involve
negotiating, drafting and advising on land acquisitions for the Region’s rapid transit
project. A strong background in real estate transactions is required for this position.
Experience in expropriations would be an asset.
Our ideal candidate will have a LL.B./J.D., as well as a membership in good standing
with the LSO. You must have a minimum of 1 year experience in a commercial
or public sector environment, possess superior drafting skills as well as excellent
research and communications skills. Familiarity with issues affecting local
government and the ability to handle a demanding caseload are essential.

Richmond Hill Council is seeking applications for the appointment of a new
Integrity Commissioner on a contract for services basis. Every Ontario
municipality is required by the Municipal Act, 2001 (“Act”) to appoint an Integrity
Commissioner. The Integrity Commissioner is responsible for administering
the City’s Council Code of Conduct including providing impartial, third party,
professional advice to Council and responding to any compliance issues
and matters relating to their ethical responsibilities and obligations under the
Code. The Integrity Commissioner is an independent accountability officer
given authority under the Act and the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act and is
therefore not an employee of the City.
